Tuesday Art ATTACK- Phil Dike “Balboa”

Phil Dike is a well-known artist of the California Watercolor Movement. This was a movement that thrived from about 1927 to 1958. It was characterized by loose landscape/cityscapes with by bright colors and bold strokes depicting everyday life. He was one of the first and greatest artists of the movement. This painting was used for a 1947 Westways Magazine cover. It is a view of the Balboa Peninsula from the bluffs of Corona Del Mar. Check out the rad surfer by his car! If you send Mowgli a letter it will end up on the island in the far right corner of the painting!
