Tuesday Art ATTACK- JC Leyendecker “Baby New Year 1934”
In honor of the New Year we are posting one of American artist J.C. Leyendecker's "Baby New Year" covers. Leyendecker’s most famous body of work was his Baby New Year paintings which he did for the cover of the Saturday Evening Post every New Year from 1906 to 1943. Leyendecker helped popularize and create the "Baby New Year" as we know him today. After 1943 he was not asked to continue his Baby New Year series because of changes at the Saturday Evening Post. He continued the series in advertisements for Amoco Gas Stations until his death. The painting above is his 1934 Saturday Evening Post cover. Leyendecker passed away in 1951.
