Carson's Monthly Crunch!– Casa Playa Colorados – Colorados, Nicaragua

Restaurant Reviews by Carson Hart
Casa Playa Colorados – Colorados, Nicaragua
Rating- 9.5/10

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Due to unusual circumstances, this months review takes place in Central America! Step away from the traditional Thanksgiving dinner and take a look at what we ate this fine Thursday —Nicaragua style!!

Here’s the table set-up. You can’t beat the view! And the waves are always firing!

From left to right: Tracy (mom), Finnley (brother), Graham, Bridger (brother), Faye, Kelly, Nancy, Don, Jen, Dan (dad), and me!

Fresh dorado is not the usual turkey! We also have some tasty dried plantains and steak.

The salads are a little different here. Less lettuce and more fruits / vegetables! (Avocado is always a nice touch)

On the left is my plate! Everything was amazing! On the right is Bridger smiling because he is holding a delicious glass of freshly squeezed guava juice.

My brother Finn and I happy to finally eat after a very long day of fishing and surfing!!

Overall, great meal! I was surrounded by my amazing family and friends, and couldn’t be happier! The chef is very talented, and has been cooking our meals since we got here. The only reason this got a 9.5 instead of 10 is because I miss pumpkin pie. Anyways, enjoy this photo of tonight’s beautiful sunset and I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving! Adiós!!

Tuesday Art ATTACK- Georg Schrimpf "Portrait Oskar Maria Graf (1918)"

By Christian Franzen

Georg Schrimpf was born in Munich, Germany on February 13th 1889. Schrimpf's stepfather forced him to leave home as young child and he found refuge in a Bakery several towns over. For several years he apprenticed as a baker until 1905, when he began to wander through Western Europe living off of odd jobs and his baking skills. Throughout his travels he had a lot of down time in which he began to draw things around him from observation.

World War 1 erupted in 1914 and Schrimpf did everything he could to avoid enlistment. His efforts detrimentally affected his health in the long run leaving him often sickly. Through the duration of the war Schrimpf worked a freelance artist taking whatever jobs he could and always painting. The famous German publicist Herwarth Walden took a liking to Schrimpfs work and held a small exhibition showing a small selection Schrimp's pieces in 1916. His paintings received a lot of attention due to its war torn subject matter and its stylistic difference from the other movements occurring in Germany at the time.

In the beginning of the 1920s Schrimpf became one of the leading members in the New Objectivity movement. This movement focused on rejecting the ways of German Expressionism/Abstraction and embracing representation. This Movement lasted up until the 1930 with the take over of the Nazi Regime. At first Schrimpfs art was tolerated by the Nazi's because of its representational nature and he was given a teaching position at there Munich Academy and later the Academy of Berlin. In 1937, Schrinpf was stripped of his teaching positions and his work was banned from public exhibition. He died the following year of unknown causes.

Puppy's Planet!!! The Aquadolls

By Puppy Stopnik

The Aquadolls is a psychedelic surf punk band formed in Los Angeles CA in 2012. They were formed by lead guitarist and singer Melissa Brooks.

Teaming up with guitarist Ryan Frailich are bassist Josh Crawford and Colin Moore on drums. This dream team creates the best do wop tunes in Orange County. They released an EP in the beginning of 2012 "We are Free". This track has all teens swooning over Mel's vocals. In 2013 The Aquadolls released their first full length album "Stoaked on You". This album won the hearts of the folks over at the hip West Coast label Burger Records. The band was influenced by the following artists like The Beach Boys, Brenda Lee, Girls and so on...

This type of music is every emotion of a teenager. It makes you want to fall in love or go on a rampage and hit car windows with a crowbar.

The Aquadolls are going to be playing at the Observatory in January and I'm planning on buying my ticket real soon!!

Tuesday Art ATTACK- Paul Wonner "Still Life With Indian Miniature”

By Christian Franzen

Paul Wonner was born in Tuscon, Arizona on April 24th 1920. He later moved to California to study painting. He settled in the Bay Area and received his B.F.A from California College of the Arts in 1941. Once graduated, Wonner was recruited into the Military and served until the end of WWII. After the War he returned to the Bay Area and attended the University of California Berkley receiving his M.A in 1953 all thanks to the GI bill.

After graduate school he became a prominent figure in the second generation or "Bridge Generation" of the Bay Area Figuration School. This movement, which was headed by David Park and Richard Diebenkorn, turned away from the popular style of abstract expressionism and began to reincorporate the figure as well as the real world back into painting.

In 1962, he was asked to teach at UCLA and moved to southern California. Towards the end of the 1960s he lost interest in the loose painterly expressions of the figure and shifted his focus to creating hyper-realistic still life. Wonner died in San Francisco on April 23, 2008.
